Wednesday: Day 3 - The painting and staining continue

Today we went back to Shiloh and continued the painting from Tuesday after stopping at a gas station for energy drinks. We are getting close to finishing the painting of all the siding and the girls are making good progress with staining wood as well. Some guys went onto the roof and painted up there. While we were painting a random guy drove by and threw a flip flop at Will and hit him and yelled at him. We didn’t go to the Memorial Park today and eat lunch like we did the first two days but we did get the privilege of listening to Gary Skinner’s testimony. Gary is the  pastor of the Shiloh Chapel. His story was very interesting and also had a lot of cool things that happened to him when he was asking God for certain things. After his testimony we received a book from him that provided more details on his testimony.  After that we went back to the church we are staying at.

Today we woke up to banging pots and pans and a happy Birthday song to Michael. It’s a very interesting way to get up. We drove to Shiloh, and got to work right away since we knew exactly where we had stopped, which was very nice because it got really hot and sunny out as the day went on. We kept painting the chapel, sanding boards, and staining boards today. The stain was very interesting because it looked like it was applied super thick, and eventually opened a new stain bucket and used cloths to apply it. Some of the boys painted on the roof, and also got a sandal or something thrown at them by a random passerby. After lunch and devotions, we worked and cleaned up the area because we were going to hear the testimony of the pastor of the church, Gary. He shared how his life got off track,  how he knew God better in jail, and how he got to where he is today. It was moving, and he even gave everyone a copy of his book. Not only did Gary share his testimony, but Maddie, one of our leaders, shared hers during our evening worship time! She spoke of her sister, her mom, and her dad and how you need to show love even when it’s hard. We wrote our burdens on a slip of paper and nailed it to a cross as well, and then we had an ice cream cake to celebrate Michael's birthday for dessert. Us girls, Chris and some other leaders and people here played a couple rounds of Scategories. I’m not too sure who won, but I still believe you can find Eglets in a lost and found:). It was generally a productive day, and I’m really glad we got to see God more through others’ testimonies, the beautiful landscape, and the wonderful people here.

After we got back to the church this afternoon, we relaxed for a little bit before showering. After showering, a few of us walked to a gas station to get some snacks and drinks. Soon after that, we had dinner followed by Worship time. After singing some praise songs, we continued the video series we have been watching. Today the video taught that we, as Christians, should never trade away the truly valuable things from God for worthless earthly items, but, even when we mess up, we are never too far from God and He is always ready to receive us back. Maddie, one of our crew leaders, also gave a little bit of her testimony and gave us the opportunity to write down something we struggle with on a piece of paper and nail it to one of the crosses in the Fellowship Hall. The message today was very deep and got us all thinking more about how we can live for Christ. We talked about the video and message as a group after the Worship time and also reflected on the past few days. We had some more free time after that and played cup pong before going to bed.
