Monday: First Day on the Job Site

First off we woke up ate breakfast and made our lunches for the day. Then we got into the vans and headed to the job site which was Shilo Chapel. Shilo Chapel is a church, but it is also a ministry that helps former inmates. The building is a very old building and it needs a lot of work done. We had different groups of people taking out stumps, power washing the outside, prepping for paint which will take place sometime later this week, and we broke down pallets and sanded them for decorations in the church. For lunch we went on a little walk to Memorial Park in which we sat by a pond which over looked the beautiful Rocky Mountains. For the rest of our time at the job site we kept on breaking pallets and cleaning gutters. Later in the week we will be painting the building off-white. All of us worked hard and we accomplished a lot and we already can see great improvement in the building.

In the evening, we visited Family Life Services where moms with kids went that were in abusive relationships. We played football and basketball, sang, and ate with the kids. It was a great way to be a good influence on the kids that came from homes that had bad influences in there lives. The kids then went to a Bible study were God’s love was taught to them. I personally had a lot of fun getting to know a certain kid named Trey and play football with him. He was a very nice kid that you would never guess came from a troubled background. I hope that our time with him was a good influence to him and would help him stay on a good path in life and even one day that he would find faith in the Lord.

For the evening worship, we worshiped and fellowshipped led together by singing songs and praising God. We are also making our way through a video series by Next Step Ministries. From there we broke off into smaller groups for devotions were we talked about influences in our life and how they affected us coming to know the Lord.

We had lunch at Memorial Park.  We had a beautiful view of the mountains - even if they were partly covered by clouds

Will and Nate led lunchtime devos.  Each member of our team was given a role on our crew. Nate and Will are our Devo Masters.

After work and showers we headed to Family Life Services to eat dinner and hang with the kids. We weren't allowed to take any pics of the kids.  Our kids did a great job playing with the kids.

Something I feel comfortable doing

I was on the burgers and Jake was on the hotdogs

A shot of some of our students playing basketball after all the kids went back by their moms

Each group had a leader go up in front to share a "Yay God" moment of the day, our team name and our team chant.  We are "Off-white paint".  Maybe you don't think that's very creative, but it will pretty much be our lives the next few days:)
